After more than 770 absentee voters cast mail-in ballots too late to be counted in the primary election, officials tucked a bright orange reminder in the ballot packages being mailed for the general election.
“We are enclosing an insert in all of the absentee ballots that are being mailed out,” county Elections Division Administrator Pat Nakamoto said Thursday.
The insert warns in-state voters to mail their absentee ballots no later than Nov. 5 if they want them to arrive in time for Election Day on Nov. 8. If they are mailing their ballot from outside the state, they should contact their post office for delivery information, Nakamoto said.
Any registered voter can request a mail ballot or cast their vote at an early walk-in location within their county. Nov. 1 is the last day to request a mail ballot for the general election from the Clerk’s Office.
Early voting starts Tuesday at four Hawaii County locations. Early voting continues through Nov. 5 for most locations.
For the first time, would-be voters also can register to vote at the early voting sites.
